Fitmix – Run, Reform, Repeat

After months of  Nina and Anita raving about Fitmix, I gave it a try this week….and am kinda hooked on it now. Martial Arts and Boxing will always be a staple in my regular training regime, but I’m a firm believer in mixing up your activities to engage different muscle groups.

I appreciate the results of an “athletic” body, over a “gym” body (looking like you do sports, as opposed to looking like you only work specific muscle groups in the gym), so this is right up my alley.

The Fitmix “Mash Up” class starts with 25 minutes of Cardio Intervals on treadmills, then continues to 30 minutes of Endurance Pilates — hence it’s namesake.

I’m never had the patience for long distance running, so the treadmill intervals are ideal for my ligaments and my sanity.  But don’t underestimate what you can do in 25 minutes….this isn’t a a jog.  The drills are fast and furious, loaded with challenging inclines and sprints.   Speed and elevation recommendations are given for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, so the class is as accessible to someone just starting a fitness program, as it is for a professional athlete.

The Pilates portion is Greek to me. The resistance training is a polar opposite of explosive drills that I’m accustomed to and I feel a little awkward on the machine, but I certainly see their benefit and am definitely challenged by the circuits.

Owners, Diana Newton and Brian Tuthill, have selected a fantastic staff of highly attentive and motivated trainers that personalize their own classes, so monotony doesn’t become an issue.

I give Fitmix 5 out of 5 Ninja Stars.
